Anne Elise Donahue Honesty ~ Integrity ~ Dedication
Candidate for Re-election to the Georgetown School Committee
Dear Georgetown Residents,
My name is Anne Donahue and I am running for re-election for a second term on the School Committee.
I am writing to ask for your support in the upcoming local elections on May 11th.
I have a dual Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education and was a teacher in the Brookline Public Schools and then the Hingham Public Schools prior to having children of my own.
Staying home to raise our two boys is a priority for my husband and me, but so is their education. I believe that all children deserve a high quality public education, and throughout my first term I have dedicated myself to learning everything I can about our K-12 curricula, programs of study, instructional methodology and assessment, special education programs, policies and procedures and budget development. I have worked with the other members of the Committee and the Superintendent to promote more parental involvement and greater transparency in our decision making processes, high
quality professional development for our outstanding teachers, and higher academic rigor for our students. It has been a productive start, but I’m not finished yet.
Our three year strategic plan is complete, and I believe the improvements the School Committee and Administration are working toward will benefit from my educational expertise. In my next term:
-
I plan to see the new elementary science curriculum I have fought for finally be implemented, and I intend to review the elementary math curriculum currently being used to make sure it is not only developmentally and academically appropriate for our students, but best prepares them for the high stakes MCAS testing
required by the state.
-
I will work to see completed curriculum alignment in all subjects, with guides to be distributed to parents so they will know exactly what their children will be expected to learn at each grade level.
-
I will review our current special education programs and work to help create more “in house” services to keep a greater number of our students with their peers and reduce out of district placements and related costs.
-
I hope to expand the intergenerational reading program I initiated at Perley to include the entire school, as well as expand the current programs for senior citizens at PennBrook and the Middle/High School.
-
I have joined the new District Technology Committee and will assist in creating a comprehensive K-12 technology curriculum.
-
I will strive to find a way to reduce the user fees our students must pay for clubs and sports, as well as improve the health and wellness of our entire student population through my work with the Health and Wellness Advisory Council.
-
I will continue to support the new Penn Brook building project as I believe it is in the best interest of the entire town, yet always be mindful of the fiduciary responsibilities I have to the residents of Georgetown.
-
In addition, I will continue to work with other town departments to streamline costs, share and improve services, and facilitate better communication with all of our residents.
I ask for your vote on May 11th. If you have further questions or comments, please contact me.
Respectfully yours,
Anne Elise Donahue
